2007 BARRELNANZA FINALS

Heart of Texas Fair Complex

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

GENERAL EVENT INFORMATION

The 2007 Barrelnanza Finals will be held November 7th through 11th at the Heart O’ Texas Fair Complex in Waco, Texas and offers contestants a shot at over $600,000 in cash and prizes, including seven Dodge Dually Crew Cab Trucks - GUARANTEED.

Four days have been scheduled in which to run this single barrel race. While registrations will open with six sections of 400 runners (Thursday thru Saturday) and one section of 300 runners on Sunday, we will not limit the total number of entries into this event. Should more than 2,700 contestants enter, we will add additional days to the front of the event (i.e. – Wednesday, then Tuesday, etc.). No special requests on draw positions in a section will be accepted; however, you may choose which section you will run in as long as availability exists in that section.  Each section will take 7± hours to run. The Day sections will start promptly at 9:00am, and the Night sections will start at 6:00pm sharp.

Entry fees are $250 per horse with a one time processing fee (please refer to How to Enter). The Rider Incentive Races will have a $20 entry fee. The draw will be posted by October 10, 2007. Send in your entry early to reserve your section!

As previously mentioned, World Barrel Racing Productions GUARANTEES that a minimum of $600,000 in cash and prizes will be awarded during the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals. This means that the money and prizes advertised are guaranteed no matter if there are 200 or 2,000 entries. At a WBRP barrel race, you will know what the payoff will be before you ever leave your house. Our payouts will NEVER be lessened – as a matter of fact, when we experience a large turnout quite often even more money and prizes are added.

We are anticipating a large turnout for the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals.  ALL FINALS CONTESTANTS MUST BE WBRP MEMBERS in order to compete.

In order to allow ample time for interested individuals to become members AND compete at a remaining WBRP event, 2007 Barrelnanza Finals

ENTRIES ARE NOW OPEN

BEFORE THE EVENT

1.         How do I qualify for the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals?

ONLY WBRP MEMBERS will be allowed to compete in the Finals.  If you are not a current 2007 member, you MUST join WBRP and enter a minimum of one of our remaining races in order to compete at the Finals.  Competing in one race as a member will allow you to enter up to two horses at the Finals.  Competing as a member in two races will allow you to enter a maximum of five horses.  If you have not purchased a WBRP membership and competed in a WBRP event prior to September 17th, you will NOT be allowed to compete in the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals.  Membership is $50/year for the first member and $30 for each additional family member.

If you entered the Barrelnanza Finals as a non-member and did not meet the requirements stated above, your entry fees will not be refunded even if a “Draw out Form” is completed.  Contestants that are qualified for the Finals may draw out by October 9, 2007.  After this time absolutely no draw outs will be accepted for any reason unless you are a Platinum member. The Platinum member Draw out deadline is October 26, 2007.

2.         How do I enter the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals?

The first to enter will receive their choice of which sections to run in. Meeting the "Post Mark Deadline" does not guarantee you a position in that section . So enter early.  Late entries will receive their choice of sections only if space is available in the requested section. All late entries will be assessed a $30 late fee and must be paid for in advance by credit card. Late entries will only be accepted by fax to 432-224-1222. The late entry deadline by fax is October 25, 2007.  Do not mail entries in after the "Post Mark Deadline." Please no changes to your entry after you send them in. There will be a $20 change fee if you must.

There are three ways to enter:

a.         Online at www.worldbarrelracing.com.  Our easy-to-complete online entry will be available until Monday, September 24th at 5:00 pm.  There is a one-time $20 processing fee to enter online.

b.         By fax to 432-224-1222. Contestants pay a one-time processing fee of $30 to enter by fax and may do so without penalty through 5 pm, Monday September 24th. Contestants wishing to late enter may do so until October 25th. All late entries will be assessed a $30 late fee in addition to applicable processing fees.

c.         By mail to:  WBRP, P. O. Box 1330, Athens, TX  75751.  Contestants pay a one-time processing fee of $30 to enter by mail. All entries must be postmarked prior to Monday, September 24th to avoid late fees.

3.         If I wish to buy a membership, enter a race, and then are unable to attend that race, will I still be able to compete at the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals?

Extenuating circumstances (such as the high cost of fuel) may make the decision to attend a regular season event difficult for some contestants, thus keeping them from being able to qualify for the Finals. Last year, several individuals realized that they could qualify for the Finals if they entered an event and were turned out.  Although we would prefer that you experience a WBRP event in person prior to the Finals, we have no control over this. Our staff must assume that individuals who are turned out were actually present, but missed their run.

This does not apply to individuals who choose to draw out of an event. Please understand that if you draw out and are refunded any portion of your entry fees, you will not be counted as having attended the event.

4.         Late Entries (L.E.)

All Late Entries received after the draw has been posted (October 10) will be placed at the bottom of the draw.  The Late Entry draw will not be posted until 1 hour prior to the beginning of each section. The Late Entry draw will be a random computer draw.

5.         What are the procedures for drawing out of the barrel race?

A refund for draw out for only entry fees, stall fees, and RV fees, less a 25% service charge, will be granted to qualifying contestants for any reason. Sorry no refunds for processing fee. The "Draw out Form" must be completed and returned to the show secretary by 4:00pm, Friday, October 9, 2007. If you entered the Barrelnanza Finals as a non-member and did not meet the membership requirements, your entry fees will not be refunded even if a “Draw out Form” is completed.  It can be found on our webpage or one can be faxed to you. Your draw out is not official until you receive a fax confirmation page from us. After this date no refunds will be given for any reason.

6.         Are horse substitutions allowed?

Yes you can substitute a horse in this barrel race, however if the horse is already entered you can not place him into another draw position. Any horse substitution must be made with the show secretary, in writing, at least 2 hours before your section begins or if running on Sunday November 11, by 10:00am. The horse substitution must be made before you run. There will be a $10.00 substitution charge.

7.         Are rider substitutions allowed?

If you enter and wish to change riders you may do so until Monday, October 9th with a $10 fee.  After this date you are allowed one rider change per year ($30) under emergency circumstances until Friday, November 2nd at 12:00pm CST. After this date there will be no exceptions.

8.         Can I change Sections?

If you enter and wish to change sections, you may due so up until Monday, October 9th with a $10 fee.  After this date you are allowed one section change per year ($) under emergency circumstances until 24 hours prior to the beginning of the first section.

9.         Can I sell my run?

No, you cannot sell a run. If you are unable to participate in the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals, your only option is to draw out completely on or before Tuesday, October 9th. No one can purchase your run. New entries will be accepted if availability exists.

3.         Will there be Exhibitions at the Barrelnanza Finals?

No, there will not be Exhibitions.

5.         Opening Ceremonies

You’ll want to make sure to attend the opening ceremonies, held 15 minutes prior to the beginning of each section. In addition to music, dancing, and pyrotechnics, there will be a number of games played that involve the audience.

Frisbees will be thrown out with prizes such as saddle pads, bronc halters, stirrups, and t-shirts.  One Frisbee will be identified as the Oxy-Gen Money Throw Frisbee. After the first big drag, the person with this special Frisbee will have a chance to throw their Frisbee into an Oxy-Gen bucket located on the first barrel. If they are successful during the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals, they will receive $10,000 cash!

6.         Games

Be sure to bring the entire family to the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals! During the big drags, we’ll involve our audience with a variety of fun-filled games. The Egg-toss, Ladies 40 & Over Dance contest, and Dizzy Stick Horse are just a few of the games that will be held during the Finals. All games are open to the public and free to enter.

7.         Contests

A number of contests will be held for the enjoyment of our participants as well.

            Oxy-Gen Money Throw

One lucky member of the WBR audience will catch a specially-marked Frisbee and be eligible to try his/her hand at tossing the Frisbee into a bucket placed on top of a barrel on the arena floor to win $10,000 cash!  All ages are eligible but in order to win the money, the Frisbee must successfully land IN the Oxy-Gen bucket.

            Trick My Horse

            Dog Costume Contest

The world of fashion has gone to the dogs! What’s your pooch wearing to the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals? If it captures the attention and hearts of our attendees, you could win BIG!

All dogs are eligible. Be prepared to escort your dog(s) into the Main Arena on Saturday evening. Winners will be announced based on audience applause. 1st place will win $200 and 2nd place will receive $100.

7.         What is the dress code at this barrel race?

All contestants must wear a long-sleeved shirt, long pants, Western Hat (minimum 2 1/2" brim), and cowboy boots or equestrian sport shoes.  Caps are not permitted.  Hats must stay on until contestant breaks the plane of the arena.  NOTE:  If the hat falls off and lands in the alleyway or arena, a $10 dress code fine will be assessed. Helmets are not required but all contestants are encouraged to wear one. Anyone not wearing the proper attire in the arena will be assessed a $10 fine. The fine money will be going to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research.

8.         Will there be Photos and a Video of my run?

To ensure that no horse is ridden by more than one person (with the exception of contestants who meet conditions detailed in the Family Rules), WBRP photographs and videotapes each contestants’ individual run. These photos/videos are the property of WBRP and decisions made by WBRP management as a result are final.

9.         Why are fines and late fees assessed?

There are fines and late charges at all barrel races because a few people will not follow the rules. The fines or late charges are used to persuade them. The management of WBRP does not like the fines or late charge but has found out that they must have them. Due to the number of changes, there is now a $20 change fee. One half of all fines and late charges will be donated to the American Cancer Society for Breast Cancer Research.

10.       How can the condition of the ground be consistent with so many racers competing over such a long time period?

An important element of any barrel race is the condition of the dirt in the arena.  World Barrel Racing Productions recognizes this concern and has retained D & G Dirt Crew to handle this important detail at the 2007 Barrelnanza Finals.  Every 5 racers, three tractors quickly drag the arena floor.  A “big” drag occurs after every 50 riders.  Also, after each section we will re-prepare the ground. All this is done to ensure that the playing field truly is “even.”

AFTER THE DUST SETTLES . . .

1.         How will the Trucks be awarded?

After the event on Sunday afternoon we will have a truck presentation. If there is a tie, we will roll the dice to determine the winner.  High roll wins the Trophy Truck and Gold Buckle for 1st place and low roll wins the 2nd place Saddle, Game Ready Unit, and Money.  If there is a three way tie high roll will still win the Truck and Gold Buckle for 1st place.  Second highest roll will win the Saddle, Game Ready Unit, and split the Money with the lowest roll, and lowest roll will also win the Saddle.

Everyone who knocks down a barrel or receives a “no-time” will have their name put into a drawing. One name will be drawn and the winner will receive the 7th truck.

You must be present to receive the truck due to contract purposes. Please note that if you win one of our trophy trucks and cannot be present to receive it on Sunday afternoon, you MUST claim the truck at our headquarter offices in Athens, Texas anytime after 10 am on Wednesday, November 14th.

PLEASE NOTE:

You will have 30 days to pay the tax, title, and license or the truck will be repossessed by Elder Dodge.

You may not sell, repaint, or remove any decals from the Trophy Truck for a period of one year. If you sell, repaint, or remove any decals from the Trophy Truck within this time you agree to pay World Barrel Racing Productions a sum of $10,000. This is required because WBRP has made commitments to our sponsors stating that they will be advertised in this manner for this allotted amount of time.

2.         If I run on Thursday and you do not pay out until Sunday night, do I have to be present to receive my money and prize?

You do NOT have to be present to win a Saddle, or Buckle. You can fill out a "Prize Release Form" and a friend can choose your prize and pickup your check. If you win anything other than a Saddle, or Buckle and you (or your friend) can not pick it up at the event, your check and a “Your Choice of Prize” will be mailed to you. Since you are a member, a "Winner's Form" is not required, but a "Prize Release Form" MUST be filled out in order for someone else to pick up your check. Whoever picks up your money and prize must have the form, and some form of photo identification. This is done to protect you.

Please note that if you win one of our trophy trucks and cannot be present to receive it on Sunday afternoon, you MUST claim the truck at our headquarter offices in Athens, Texas anytime after 10 am on Wednesday, November 14th.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND LINKS

1.         What is the arena and facilities like?

This year the Barrelnanza Finals will be hosted in the Heart O’ Texas ColiseumThe Heart O’ Texas Fair Complex is not only the center of the annual Heart O’ Texas Fair & Rodeo, but is also utilized throughout the year for numerous events such as industrial expositions, home shows, automobile shows, religious occasions, ice shows, circuses, and many other elaborate attractions.

The Complex was constructed after voters of the county had authorized a bond issue of $1,200,000 in the early 1950s.  Despite public criticism that might be directed toward the board and individual members, it was the board’s unanimous decision to build portions of the entire plant that the available money would permit.  The last of five contracts was signed on January 9, 1952, and construction of the Coliseum began soon afterward.   The Coliseum, livestock barn, ticket booths, and several small buildings were constructed, paving was done and fencing enclosed the grounds.  In the Spring of 1953, the Coliseum was completed and on April 11th, the formal opening was held.

All facilities and grounds of the Fair Complex underwent renovations and/or reconstruction throughout out the years of 2000 to 2005.  The Complex now covers 50 acres of land containing modernized facilities, stalls, RV hook-ups and parking areas able to accommodate over 3800 vehicles.  Its facilities consist of the Heart O’ Texas Coliseum and Back Porch Club, Dodge Show Pavilion, General Exhibits Building, Fine Arts Building, and the recently constructed Stall Barn.
